How to Clean an Insulated Travel Mug
As we start to venture further and further away from our comforting abodes, it might be nice to take along a hot beverage to warm us up during these chillier months.
Being a bit of a coffee snob myself, a travel mug can be ideal as I start to explore neighbouring villages again. A good travel mug should keep coffee warm for at least 6 hours and perfect for sipping when out and about. This also works well for the summer months when those hot beverages turn into iced lattes.
So to get the most out of your Travel mug and prolong its life, it’s best to keep your mug nice and clean. Just like any stainless-steel insulated products, metal mugs themselves are not dishwasher safe but the lids commonly are.
Below are some simple steps to look after your travel mug:
General Everyday Use
- Rinse your Travel mug with hot soapy water at the end of your day. Let it dry out completely with the lid off.
- Give the lid a good rinse, or you can pop this in the dishwasher. If using a 360-degree lid, make sure the button is pushed down before popping it in the dishwasher. Then shake out any water before allowing it to dry out completely with top of lid facing down.
- If you prefer not to use soapy water, you can mix a small amount of bicarb soda and vinegar with your H2O.
Spring Clean
- Treat your mug to a thorough monthly wash. Stir a little (one tablespoon) bicarb soda with white vinegar (1 - 2 tablespoons) to concoct a paste. Chuck it inside your vessel and let it sit for 10 minutes (if you have the time) then rinse it out with boiling water. Let it dry out completely with the lid off, upside down. Give the lid a good clean with this paste also. For hints on how to clean the lid, check out my post here.
